An intense battle of Connect 4 keeps these two young residents focused during Friday night’s Down @ The Yard. Music, great food and good times were all on the menu. David Stone photo

The Snow White Ballet

The Classical Ballet Conservatory at Lisa’s Dance Connection presents The Snow White Ballet at 7 p.m. tonight and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cultural Activities Center. Tickets are $15 per person and are available now online at cacarts.org.  Ballet photos by Jeni Maxson

May Market Day

Mmmmm! Chef Flaco’s chili-lime chips and salsas are just a few of the items for sale at the May Market Day in Downtown Temple. About 50 vendors are set up in the City Hall parking lot, but you better hurry for this one — it ends at 2 p.m. In the photo below, a shopper looks through the selection of breads at Ed’s Breds, always a tremendously popular booth. At bottom is a sample of the items available at Jukebox’s Wood Crafts. They even make their own business cards out of wood — how cool is that? David Stone photos

Jackson Park clean-up day

Members of the Rotary Club of Temple and Transform Temple gathered at Jackson Park this morning for a work day. The group did landscaping, minor repairs and picked up trash in the park. Today would be a beautiful day to lend a helping hand and pick up some trash at a park near you! David Stone photo

today’s best bets

  • Steel Magnolias at Temple Civic Theatre. Visit templecivictheatre.com for tickets and show times. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle, the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser; an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby, is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on their underlying strength and love.

  • Martian Folk Invasion @ FoxDog. 7 p.m. Martian Folk will be performing. FoxDog will be open from noon to 10 pm with live music taking place from 7-10 p.m. Pizza Pieros will be onsite with food from noon until they are sold out.

  • Billy Holt Band live at Bo’s Barn. 9 p.m.

  • Name that Tune Bingo: 80s Edition at Fire Base Brewing. $2 per card. 7:30 p.m.

  • Roger Creager with Creed Fisher at Schoepf’s. Gates open at 6, music at 7.

  • Hot Wings of Death food challenge at The Beltonian Theatre. Noon. $25 entry fee. Register in advancat TheBeltonianTheatre.com…First place is unlimited movies for a full year.
