Weekend fun
The weekend is off to a busy start, and here's a few photos to prove it! Enjoy the sunshine, Temple
An intense battle of Connect 4 keeps these two young residents focused during Friday night’s Down @ The Yard. Music, great food and good times were all on the menu. David Stone photo

May Market Day
Mmmmm! Chef Flaco’s chili-lime chips and salsas are just a few of the items for sale at the May Market Day in Downtown Temple. About 50 vendors are set up in the City Hall parking lot, but you better hurry for this one — it ends at 2 p.m. In the photo below, a shopper looks through the selection of breads at Ed’s Breds, always a tremendously popular booth. At bottom is a sample of the items available at Jukebox’s Wood Crafts. They even make their own business cards out of wood — how cool is that? David Stone photos
Jackson Park clean-up day
Members of the Rotary Club of Temple and Transform Temple gathered at Jackson Park this morning for a work day. The group did landscaping, minor repairs and picked up trash in the park. Today would be a beautiful day to lend a helping hand and pick up some trash at a park near you! David Stone photo
today’s best bets
Steel Magnolias at Temple Civic Theatre. Visit templecivictheatre.com for tickets and show times. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle, the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser; an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby, is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on their underlying strength and love.
