A new nature-themed playground and park will officially open next week on Temple’s east side.
Prewitt Park, located at 1720 E. Downs Ave. in Temple, opens at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11.
“We are thrilled to introduce Prewitt Park to the neighborhood,” Temple Parks & Recreation Director Kevin Beavers said. “We’re grateful for the partnerships that made this park possible, and we can’t wait to see the community put it to use.”
Through a partnership with the National Recreation & Parks Association (NRPA), the city received an $85,000 grant for the playground from Niagara Cares – the philanthropic arm of Niagara Bottling Company – as part of Niagara’s Perk Your Park Project.
An additional $26,000 from The Target Corporation’s Connecting Communities to Outdoor Play initiative was also received.
Volunteers from the city of Temple and Niagara Bottling will begin the morning by putting the final touches on landscaping around the park, followed by the grand opening ceremony at 11 a.m.
Lunch will be provided following the ceremony while supplies last, Beavers said.
Prewitt Park is located at the eastern-most end of Downs Avenue in Temple.
