Construction is under way on two new parking garages in downtown Temple and both projects are expected to be complete in about a year.
The garages include a 235-space facility on South 1st Street and a 415-space garage on Central between 2nd and 4th streets near the Hawn Hotel and Arcadia Theatre.
“As downtown Temple revitalization continues, we look forward to an increase in visitors to the area,” said City Manager Brynn Myers. “We will be ready with expanded parking to support a convenient, dynamic downtown experience,”
In addition to the parking garages, downtown visitors will see a variety of private projects taking shape this year, such as the Hawn Hotel, Arcadia Theatre, Professional building, Sears building, Bird Creek Brewing Co., and several new and expanded businesses.
According to Myers, the city will also be making improvements to roadways and landscaping on and between Central and Adams avenues.
Traffic delays are not expected at this time, but some road closures are expected during the projects.
